The federal government has been forced to step in and tell Arizona Republicans that they can no longer direct federal COVID relief funds only to schools that have refused to implement mask mandates. Republican governor Doug Ducey had put a ban on mask mandates in place, and in order to punish the school districts that defied him, he set up a grant program that was only available to schools that refused to put mask mandates in place. Ring of Fire's Farron Cousins discusses this disgusting, anti-science behavior from the state of Arizona.

The federal government has had to step in this week to inform the state of Arizona that they can't continue to deny COVID relief funds to schools that implement mask mandates. Here's what happened. The Republican controlled government of the state of Arizona implemented a ban on mask mandates like so many other red states have done. But as in other red states, some school districts were like, no, go to hell. We're going to go ahead and have mask mandates because we want to protect our students. So governor Doug Ducey, again Republican, came up with an idea, all right, you're going to defy me. I'm going to defy you. So he sets up a grant program with $163 million all out of the federal COVID funds that Arizona had received, $163 million grant program, that is only available to schools that have complied with the ban on mask mandates. So ha, you want to protect your students, very well.

You don't get any COVID money. At a time when school systems across the country are already starved of cash we're going to starve you even further because we're just a gaggle of morons over here running the state of Arizona. And yes, I can confidently say that the Republicans in Arizona are in fact, a gaggle of morons. When was the last time we saw any positive news out of the state of Arizona? I mean, hell not even just on the Republican side, right? On the Democratic side, you've got Kyrsten Sinema. On the Republican side, you've got the cyber ninjas audit and now this retaliation against schools that protect children from COVID. My God, I know Florida gets a lot of crap and hell I give Florida a lot of crap for being such a crazy state, but maybe we ought to start looking a little more at Arizona because things are looking really screwy over there, almost on the same level as a Florida or Texas or Georgia at this point.

Arizona's not well. So welcome to the club of crazy, Arizona. You're fitting right in with the rest of us. But anyway, here's the thing. Doug Ducey, the governor of Arizona, is furious. Like so many other Republican governors are. They don't like to be defied. They don't like to have their power challenged because when that happens, they learn that they are not as all powerful as they thought they were. They do not have as many supporters as they thought they had. They are not as untouchable as they would like to believe and that is what is at the heart of all of this. It's less policy and more psychology at this point. And unfortunately the people who suffer are the ones most in need of help.
